"Just the Facts"

In an effort to improve basic math facts and computation skills, we are going to have a "Just the Facts" day at the end of every month.  This is a school-wide activity.  Please see the 5th grade monthly focus below.  Timed tests will come home in the bi-weekly math folder, so that you will know how your child is doing.  Most importantly, please work with your child on their basic facts.  The goal is for each child to be able to answer at least 90 problems correctly in 5 minutes.

September: Addition

October: Subtraction

November: Multiplication

December: Division

This semester, the monthly focus is changing.  We will now be focusing on multi-digit multiplication and long division.  The goals for each of these focuses will be a little different.  The January / February goal will to be able to solve 15 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication problems in 5 minutes.  The March / April goal will to be able to solve 15 long division problems in 5 minutes.
